I am going to show you a cute idea that can be done easily with minimal
materials , and can be a great way to :
not doomscroll
sit quietly with your rage
clean up the yard from wind storms
use up all that paint you bought but never use
engage in positive dissociation
get the kids to hang out with you for more than five minutes
stop eating cookies and chips for no reason
make something by hand and impress your family & friends

Your List of Materials
Sticks! - Thin enough to break satisfyingly with your hand
White acrylic or spray paint
Various acrylic paints in all the colors
Brushes, water, paper towels
Wreath forms - can make yourself with cardboard or anything round that you can glue things to (dollar store prob has them too)
hot glue gun & sticks
spray varnish - optional but recommended
paper bags ( finally you can justify keeping a stash of them!) for working on
Step 1: Let’s Get Started
Over the Summer, we tend not to use the dining room so much. I am left with one teenager at home, (so they dont want to sit with you anyway.) But I do like to encourage some togther time and creative stuff is helpful to have on hand for these purposes. When my daughter was younger we did arts and crafts all the time. So, I like to gather all the materials and kind of leave them on the table, and set up a crafty thing that you can come and go from, just do here and there, for 10 mins or maybe even an hour, up to you! ( Summer is nice like that.)
This one is great for that. You could set up on trays to still use your table, too.
I REALLY reccomend painting your sticks white first, as they paint up much easier and nicer - but optional. You can use white acrylic paint and be messy about it. Huzzah!
You can get wreath forms anywhere, but the best place is your recylcling bin. Cut up cardbaord into the shape and size you want. (Try not to get too ambitious right away, I mean, you want to actually finish this project, right?)
Make sure you have enough glue sticks, if you even were able to find them in the back of the closet.
Make your wreath form, set aside, its good to make first, so you can keep testing your stick sizes ( you can trace pots, dishes etc)
This is supposed to be FUN and RELAXING, so don't overthink how to paint the sticks, anything goes. I have seen even really cool black and white ones.
Step 2: Do the Thing and be amazed
You can paint them all and glue after or glue as you go, there are NO RULES. (I mean, literally no rules anywhere anymore, are there??? )
This is a great zone out activity, just happily paint some sticks and make a really fun new thing to hang up anywhere you want. Relax this summer, you deserve it.
Oh yeah, I would spray them with clear spray because you made it, so protect it! Do that OUTSIDE, please. (Don't make me tell you again.)
